Welcome

All the cute and the precious have been found. All the kitties and puppies have homes. The candy colored, the eco-friendly, the hipsters of the handmade are all duly covered elsewhere. Here I will find the slightly odd, the darkly beautiful, the elegant and steamy pieces of goodness. I am very particular in my tastes and though I promise you that I will share nothing but the most intriguing of my discoveries, you may not always like them. I must also confess that I have no real artistic nor fashion background to base my finds upon. These are simply discoveries dug up from the depths of etsy or perhaps elsewhere, brushed off and presented for your approval.

Cute

Awww, aren't they just the cutest things ever1. Bertram, The Mechanical Birdie - Industrial Sculpture - monsterkookies
2. Clockwork Armadillo - amazoncat
3. steampunk puppy dog bead or pendant - oneandonly
4. Small Hedgecog (Copper) - JustJB
I know, I said that I wasn't going to feature 'cute' here, but look at them! I was searching for steampunk sculptures and I just kept finding more of these adorable little animals from completely mechanical to simply adorned with a few gears. I guess even the animals like to be a little steampunk.

Oh, Alice

I'm Late, I'm Late...you know the rest1. Steampunk Alice in Wonderland - strangeling
4. Alice in Wonderland surreal weird Gothic lolita art print - UnderlandArt
With the recent release of photos from the new Alice film circulating, well...everywhere, it's hard to get the girl off my mind. I always found the story fantastic and full of the same darkness that makes Grimm's tales so memorable and twisted. I for one am terribly excited by the re-imagining that these photos foretell. Re-imagining that many other artisans have been doing as well. Costumes and art were just the tip of the Alice iceberg on etsy, go look for yourself, but don't get lost down the rabbit hole.

Man

Here's one for the menfolk.1. Steampunk Kilt - techdragon
2. Steam Punk Militia Brass Blaster Belt Bag - JungleTribe
3. Men's Medium Grimy and Green Atomic Bomb T-Shirt OOAK - DirtyandDistressed
4. STEAMPUNK BREECHES - LotusLuxuries
Go Steampunk, or go home guys. Are you manly enough to sport a kilt or pants with a name like 'breeches'? Do you like your clean and shiny shirts to just *look* dirty? Can you pull off a hip bag with shiny filigrees and keys? If you answered yes to any of these questions you're ready to be a Steamy manly man.

Mask

Cover your face, cover your wall, masks can hide it all.1. Art Nouveau swirly leaves leather mask in black - TomBanwell
2. Painted Bluebird - enameled copper mask - snegoratchka
3. Venice Bronze Mask - ContagionStudios
4. Leather Mask in Silver...twisting curls and tendrils - teonova
There is a special place in my heart for masks, but since it would be tacky to show off my own here, I've found some interesting ones to share. We all love Tom Banwell's complex creations, but here's one of his simple pieces, just elegant. I've also been a fan of the twisty masks from teonova for some time. This copper beauty was a surprising find as was the polymer clay piece that only looks like copper. Amazing on your wall and your face.

Lolly

Lovely Little Lolita1. Elegant Gothic Lolita underbust corset apron dress -custom- SkeletonsCloset
2. Striped Candy Carnivale Dress - HealingHeart
3. Purple Metamorphose - Unrefined Dress - Neoqueenhoneybee
4. Pink and Black Tartan Taffeta Party Dress with Bib - skycreation
I don't pretend to understand the Lolita movement. It is as diverse as any other alternative fashion genre. I do however love a cute little dress, whether it is dark and decadent, sweet and Victorian, or with a little naughty mixed in. These creations are never subtle and are always feminine regardless of the sub genre, taking us back a little to our childhoods when a poofy skirt was a wonderful dream.

Gear

Simple and slightly nontraditional, but I love gears.1. Veritas Unicoder Pendant - liquidsolution
2. GearCode Cuff - SintheteX
3. Industrial Brass Antiqued Gear Cog Sprocket - Pendant / Necklace - monsterkookies
4. Chunky Black Gear - andyshouse
I know, I know, gears are so overplayed, but that's precisely why I get excited when I find fresh ones with just enough different to be great again. Made in new materials in slightly different configurations, gears can be fresh. So, I present some new gear finds in latex, silver, polymer clay and wood. They are Lovecraftian, cyberpunk and simply elegant. Don't you just love gears?

Aaaargh

Here, there be pirates1. Seafaring Pirate Hat - Tricorn - topsyturvydesign
2. Rust Oak Leaf Vixen Pirate Coat - damselinthisdress
3. Stripe bustle bloomers - loulahbelle
4. Dread Metallic Print by Bethalynne Bajema - ettadiem
We all know that there is nothing romantic about *real* pirates. Dirty, dangerous scoundrels that they were, but their fictional counterparts on the other hand, now there's something I can work with. So today I present a little dress up inspiration for the summer. Hats and coats and bloomers and just a little touch of fantastic art for a final touch.

Chainmaille

Rings and Chains and Rings and Chains1. Hematite Renaissance Royalty Headdress - worldinchainsmaille
2. Sterling Chainmail Halter Top - bcyrjewelry
3. Chain Maille Sarong (or wrap) - born2create
4. Stylish Chainmaille Vest - MPSCraftworks
I've tried my hand at weaving maille and like tatting, it is time consuming work. I've always been attracted to the intricate metal fabric produced this way, but bracelets and necklaces are too common for the the wunderkammer, so here I've found some more interesting and creative pieces. Simple looking openwork with dramatic results and amazing garments that probably took their creators countless hours to weave. Really though, I just like the shiny...don't you?

Here Comes The Sun

Just because you prefer black doesn't mean you can't wear a lovely sundress.1. bandaged black sun dress - JAlvo
2. Greek Inspire Black White Pleated Dress - lifeisonlyillusion
3. Handmade Snap-neck Dress in black cotton/Lycra - Recession
4. Silky Lace Tea Gown Modern Edwardian - Tsukatta
I like my wardrobe dark and dramatic, but I've no interest in overheating in the summer sun. Solution, a dark and interesting sundress. From bold, urban designs, to soft and romantic, a sundress does not need to drape you in colorful floral chaos to keep you cool.

Circus

Everyone loves the circus.1. Ringleader's Elephant Art Photo - thestapeliacompany
2. The Carnival is in Town - justalittlecreepy
3. Carneval 1 - sugarspot
4. Cat and Canary - TheLastCircus
I imagine that the circus was much more amazing before I was around to enjoy it. Full of wonders to behold that would stay in your mind forever. The circus of my imagination does not really exist, but apparently I am not the only one who wishes that it did. These fanciful pictures tell tale of that.

p.s. yesterday's image was a WWI era plane engine...in case you were wondering.

One More Day

The wunderkammer returns tomorrow with fresh finds. In the meantime, here's the closest thing to Steampunk I ran across on my admittedly pedestrian adventures to the North. Brownie points awarded if you can guess what it is.

Julian DiMarco

For the first time ever, a single artist...1. The infinity circuit
2. Steampunk Wunderkammer
3. Antarctic soil sample from the lovecraft short story 'at the mountains of madness'
4. The clockwork hand of Anton Evisser
All pieces by jfdimarco
So I was looking for gadgets and I found this unassuming little shop and I suffered from amazing gadget overload. I simply could not decide which piece to feature and opted for my first ever, single artist feature. I was in heaven, not only as a lover of Steampunk, but also as an unapologetic Lovecraft fan. Each piece clearly has a story, a dark history and each is unforgettable. Not to mention the Wunderkammer, wow. You simply must visit the shop to see all the closeups of the pieces to fully appreciate this amazing art. Did I already say Wow?

Woman

Lovely steamy ladies in art.
1. Letters From The Mathamatician's Wife - stilettoheights
2. Jetpack Girl - print - justmadbooks
3. TO THE FAIR 1893 reproduction - serpentes
4. Mad Hatter -Ladyhatter- Steampunk Victorian Burlesque fine art print - theGorgonist
Seems only right to finish out the week with images of some steampunk ladies. What's fun about steam is the diversity that can be found within it's shores. From jetpacks to burlesque queens, there is something for every taste. I found these pieces is mediums from simple pen to painting and you'll find everything in between. Wonderful artists with striking pieces, enjoy.

Steam Team Part 2

More great pieces from my friends at the Etsy SteamTeam.1. Passage no. 142- The Music Room - sojourncuriosities
2. Inside Gear - Figments
3. S.S. Mathilda Necklace in Sterling, Copper and Brass - ClockworkCrow
4. Airship Officers Guild cuff links - SteamSmithWorks
Of this batch of lovely sparklers, I was only fortunate to meet ClockworkCrow at the Maker Faire. She did however steal all the affection of my oldest daughter. She also wowed the crowds with her feather rings, which is why none of them are currently available for sale. The other makers sent in pieces for us to display for them increasing our presence and cool factor by a large degree. Great steamy pieces from wonderful folks.

Black & White

Dressing up should always make you feel fabulous right?1. Elegant victorian ball gown - ParaNoire
2. Couture white silk wedding dress / evening gown black zippers and lace - devaniweaver
3. La chanteuse gown and corset - btrousseau
4. Dress Garconne - madameantoine
I truly wish that I had proper excuses to dress this finely, but alas I do not. I shall try to keep myself happy with some amazing eye candy instead. I have adored the work of ParaNoire for some time, the gorgeously textured Victorian garb is divine. The black and white contrast of devianiweaver and btrousseau's gowns almost make me want to actually wear white. I have also been waiting for the right time to feature this amazing suit as a dress since I first saw it, just jaw dropping in its creativity and...well fabulousness.

Steam Team

Some things are even better in person like my new friends from the Steam Team.1. Steampunk gas mask in natural brown - TomBanwell
2. Juniper Cuffs (Pair) - Choklit
3. Oh My Stars and Garters, Volume 1 - art book - industrialfairytale
4. Brass Key Choker - nullalux
I was lucky to attend and vend at the Maker Faire this weekend with my steam team friends so this post is for them! Toms masks are amazing in pictures and more fabulous up close. The Maker Faire patrons looked for him long after he'd gone. You can not possibly understand the sheer decadence of Choklit's cuffs and collars until you've seen the silk in person, so worth every penny. Indy had her amazing art and jewelry flying off the table and no wonder it is so full of personality. Nullalux's many gadgets and jewelry and so much more was infinitely more amazing in person than in pictures. There are more, but we'll save them for tomorrow.
